Overview some of National Council of Ghanaian Associations’ Projects/achievements to date.
The underlisted are some of our projects/achievements:
1. Re-established NCOGA Scholarship for High School Students going on to college- we have so far awarded 20 scholarships, and still hope to increase the number of awards by the end of our tenure.
2. Re- establishing the Community Service Award. The purpose is to recognize individual and/or collective achievements of members in the community who are the unsung heroes.
3. Reconstituting the Entertainment, Education & Cultural committees
4. Continuing with the Ghana’s Independence Day Celebration with health workshops.
5. Strengthening the open door relationship with the Ghana Mission which resulted in the latter assisting the Council in raising funds for our various events.
6. Re-establish working with the Mission to organize forums for President, Vice-President and other visiting dignitaries to interact with the community
7. Re-invigorating the annual NCOGA Picnic by generating profits and also adding a cultural dimension to the celebrations resulting in the first ever Durbar/cultural festival with rave reviews and financial gain to the Council.
8. Spearheading the Cultural center initiatives that raised over $140, 000 towards acquiring the Cultural center for the community. Even though NCOGA lost the bid to another Ghanaian organization, the template is now available for successive executives of NCOGA to use.
9. Collaborating with various African-American, Youth and Young Adults Associations, such as STAR100, Ghana Parade Council in the tri-state area.
10. Donated funds to the Ghana-Yale Research partnership program.
11. Donated funds to support the earthquake victims in Haiti and also initiative clothing and nonperishable goods to the victims.
12. Donated funds to support flood victims in Northern Ghana.
13. Donated 30 standard and 10 motorized wheelchairs along with beds and other medical equipments to Korle Bu hospital.
14. Reconstituted NCOGA Board of Directors and establish a cordial working relationship with them for the benefit of NCOGA.
15. Expanding membership of NCOGA by admitting Teshie Akroh Association as a member of the Council.
16. Organizing seminars on Real Estates, Health fair, and higher education in order to help the community members to be knowledgeable about opportunities available to them.
17. NCOGA in conjunctions with American Ghanaian Lawyers Association hosted first ever Legal Clinic to educate the community on immigration and other legal issues.
18. Assisted non-governmental organizations that have continuously supported NCOGA’s programs and projects.
19. Donated $7,000 to the Accra Sports Stadium Disaster Relief.
20. Spearheaded Dual Citizenship initiative for all Ghanaians resident in the Disapora.
21. Collaborated with Ghanaian model Belinda Baidoo to organize a Fashion show fundraiser in aid of orphanages in Ghana.
