We look forward to hearing from you about our goals. We also encourage and welcome constructive criticism and suggestions on how we can better meet your needs. History:
Okuapeman Fekuw grew out of the desire of a few citizens of Akuapem residing in the Tri-state area to provide a forum for fellowship and socialization for the citizens of Akuapem in the USA. Prominent amongst the friends and relatives who got together to establish the Fekuw were Nana Debra Dwamena, Rev. Dr. Kumi Dwamena, Rev. Yaw Asiedu, Ofei Kofi Asiedu, Abusuapayin Eugene Adum Kwapong, E.A. Anim, Abusuapayin Bediako Yirenkyi, Mrs. Elizabeth Kwapong, the late Mr. Awuku Obobisa and Mrs. Eva Debra Dwamena.
In time, it became evident that there was the need for a better structured organization that would better represent and articulate the goals and aspirations of a group of ethnic Akuapem who had decided to seek fame and fortune in the United States of America. And so on May 10, 1981 in the apartment of Mr. E.A. Anim in Manhattan, Okuapeman Fekuw was founded with Mr. Yaw Bediako as the first President and Nana Debra Dwamena as the first Secretary. Other members of the first Executive Committee included Mr. Ofori Mankata, Mr. E. Anim, Mr. Eugene Kwapong, and Ms. Cecillia Danso.
The founding fathers promulgated a constitution that granted membership to other persons regardless of sex, race, religion or national origin and who shared our aims and objectives. Throughout our years of existence Okuapemman Fekuw has stuck steadfastly to our political and non-discriminatory role. Our general membership, drawn from all walks of life and human pursuits, meets once every month to socialize and discuss issues affecting us and our motherland.
